Upvc Replacement Door Handles: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors wear out over time and will need to be replaced. It is crucial to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

The three measurements to check are the top screw's position, lever and key hole dimensions. Use the size guide to help you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle is a contemporary door handle designed to work with new or replacement doors. This kind door handle is available in a wide range of styles and finishes. This handle is offered by several manufacturers, including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are constructed of durable materials and are ideal for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline and run from the same spindle and screw fixings so they can be easily fitted to new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The spring lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This ensures that the quality of finish and performance will last for a long time. The lever that is sprung can be cut to fit more locks. This is particularly beneficial for narrower door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever can be used for doors with latches that can be opened by the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. The handle can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are usually utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a range of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200k cycles and are available in a variety of finishes including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with a high performance and long-lasting durability for its intended purpose.

All of the UPVC lever pad designs are supplied with a spindle and screws that allow them to be installed on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centers of 211mm permit a larger handle, which is often an advantage when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have springs, which can solve the issue of door handles that sag out of their horizontal position when they are not being used.

It is crucial to ensure that the PZ dimensions for both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also referred to as 'handle centres' or cylinder centres'. It is important for matching the correct handles.

Once you have decided on the correct PZ size, you will need to make sure that the lever and push pads are designed to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. They are usually of a round or square design with an internal lever as well as an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position after not in use, instead of hanging out and possibly securing in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from entering a property. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed models, allowing them to be put on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. The cylinder lock operates by a key which unlocks the cylinder's case. This reveals pins that can be aligned to the pins in the lock and allow them to rotate the camera that rotates, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is crucial; it depends on how your doors and handles are used. For instance, doors that are external must be secured with a more secure cylinder while internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders have extra features that can improve security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump features.

A euro cylinder must be measured accurately to ensure it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the other end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be susceptible to attacks like lock snapping, so it is crucial that it's not too long.

Most modern cylinders are designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. These are designed to reduce the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This helps stop the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are also cylinders constructed to withstand snapping.  upvc replacement door handles  is a common attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a faster and simpler method to gain access than using the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which can delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is situated in the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to bring your multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after using. The handles had no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was removed. This component is the best way to solve this issue. It also helps prevent your door from getting stuck in the closed or open position, as they are difficult to close manually.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They won't work with unsprung handles and you'll have to cut a hole into your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplates of door handles of many brands of uPVC doors. They are available as a single unit. They come with a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution for the problem of door handles that are sagging. They are simple to install and will extend the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
